WebDec 6, 2024 · An electrocardiogram — abbreviated as EKG or ECG — measures the electrical activity of the heartbeat. With each beat, an electrical impulse (or “wave”) travels through the heart. This electrical wave causes the muscle to squeeze and pump blood from the heart. WebECG interpretation requires knowledge of these waves and intervals. The P-wave, PR interval and PR segment ECG interpretation traditionally starts with an assessment of the P-wave. The P-wave reflects atrial depolarization (activation). The PR interval is the distance between the onset of the P-wave to the onset of the QRS complex.
